As many of you know, I have made some changes in the style of photography that I am promoting for my business this year. My own path (style) is becoming very clear to me these days. My dose of perspective has also effected my photography in many ways. I know that many of you are drawn to my photos because of the intimacy of my family shots. I crave those very moments in the stories that I run across daily. I want to capture the simple moments that you would never hire a photographer to capture. Here are a few of my favorites in my own life..
The morning snuggles, the kisses goodnight, the child throwing a fit on the floor, a woman crying, a father staring in admiration of his family, the single woman at her favorite coffee shop, the couple making dinner together, the night time ritual (any ritual really), I WANT IT ALL. “To know you is to photograph you” and I want to know your love story. Whether it’s the love you have for yourself, your parents, your husband, your kids or your pets.
I had the absolute honor to go out to my friend Lindsey’s place in Sacramento a month ago to try out my new style. I got to meet the two most important men in her life first…I met them with a camera in my face. I was in heaven and I think I smiled for 2 days straight! I managed to get a shoot in of them, with all the simple moments inbetween. My ultimate goal is to of course give them images that they will treasure and help them remember the smallest details about their life at that time in their marriage. But I also capture many moments that were significant for me, part of my memory. I captured so many pictures of the small details around her house that I adored. Like the journal in the guest room, the chilled water, all the flowers and so many more. This was the amazing meal that Lindsey prepared for me based on my diet that she researched before I came. Part of what she probably wouldn’t think to have me capture is the fact that she is one of the most nurturing and creative people I have ever met. She is so into the tiny details to make her guests feel just like they are at home. She could run one, amazing bed and breakfast, I’m telling you!

. This second picture just about sums up their beautiful relationship on it’s deepest level of commitment;) Couples that play together, stay together, and these two could teach a class in it!

Saturday morning and they celebrate a HUGE play made by their team, the Vikings;) They definitely share a passion for the sport together. She is clearly my phone-a-friend when I need a question answered about anything that has to do with football.

A huge part of their love story….Titan, their dog-child.

This is how we started their shoot for the day.

Then it was off to capture their connection all over downtown Sac. Mark is the biggest goof ever, and it is like magic in their relationship because it keeps her smiling and admiring all the time!

“Smash into me”. They were game for absolutely anything I threw their way.

I adore this shot of Lindsey. I feel like it captures her nurturing soul. She is an incredible listener because she gives everyone her 100% attention. She makes you feel special and has a quiet confidence about her that creates a safe place to engage with. Plus it shows her getting back to her comfort level…she doesn’t wear her hair down much so it wasn’t long before she was throwing it back in the shoot;) I think this moment of beautiful, concentration on her face is something she isn’t aware of because there hasn’t ever been a picture of it. I love the simplicity of this shot and this moment.

Mark got her this incredible bracelet as a gift and I fell in love with it. Isn’t it the coolest? Stay with me now. I know there is a lot of images, but I couldn’t tell their story in just a few. At least I’m not putting all 300 in:)

Polaroid fun. It is so entertaining to watch them engaging with each other. All the while, oblivious of my camera because they are into the other one.

One of my favorites of the day. This is JOY!

They were doing a connection exercise in the one on the right and you can see the slightest touch of his finger on her hand, telling her that it’s ok to cry and that he is her safe place. I love this moment. I think there are incredible memories in this one for all three of us. I will cherish this raw/real moment for years!

Marky Mark…thank you for all the laughs over our ability to live through movie quotes of some of the funniest movies. Lindsey, you still really need to brush up on your skills to get involved in the nonsense more;) You can’t just laugh at us, you have to laugh with us.

Last one…..I think I shall call this one, Lindsanity! I think you are amazing in this one!

Oh, did I mention that she is extra cool and that we have the most special bond, of being two of the radest Alaskan chicks on the planet;) Lindsay, I can’t tell you how much of an impact my stay with you and Mark made on my soul. I adore the both (or 3) of you and I am honored to tell you love story. Thank you for putting up with the camera in your face at all hours and for making me feel so at home. I hope these images and the other 200 something carry on for generations and that each person that picks them up is able to feel the emotions and laughter that encompass your love story!
